Star for Life is a non-profit organisation with the mission to inspire young people to value learning, acquire the knowledge and skills they need for productive work, and live healthy and meaningful lives. Star for Life has developed a unique set of programmes and workshops that we are currently running in 88 High Schools in South Africa and Namibia to add value to the regular Life Orientation curriculum. Our method empowers learners with self-esteem and internal incentives to adopt positive attitudes and constructive behaviours. Star for Life started in 2005 as an HIV prevention intervention but has since then broaden to do Health and Sexual Reproductive Health Rights promotion more generally. Star for Life seeks the services of a Professional Nurse who will work with Mobile Health Unit team, schools and targeted communities providing general nursing care in line with the strategic objectives of the Star for Life Mobile Health Unit. 

Duties and Responsibilities

*Provide basic health care services within the capacity of the organisation 
*Provide health screening to Star for Life learners within the scope of the program
*Oversee in the HIV testing and counselling by the MHU counselors’  
*Conduct health education in schools on specific matters in line with the IHSP Programme.

Minimum Requirements

*Matric /Grade 12+ National Diploma or Degree in Nursing 
*Registered with the SANC. 
*2 years’ experience in a similar or related position 
*Training in HIV testing and counselling will be an added advantage
*Knowledge of HIV/Aids and Sexual Reproductive Health Rights 
*Understanding of the Integrated School Health Programme 
*Experience working with children and/or youth will be an advantage 
*Valid code 10 driver’s license 

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

*Knowledge of the Nursing legislation and related legal and ethical practices
*Basic understanding and knowledge of NGO sector in South Africa
*Fluency IN English and IsiZulu  
*Computer Skills
*Ability to work independently without close supervision 
*Preference will be given to candidates residing in the area.
