We empower young people to dare to believe in their dreams
Our History
When entrepreneur Dan Olofsson and his wife Christin established a new venture in South Africa, they soon noticed how severely affected children and young people were by HIV and AIDS in the country. Therefore, in 2005 the couple started a programme at Siphosabadletshe High School in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The aim was to give children and young people support to be able to take responsibility for their own lives, health and sexuality. As the programme was appreciated by teachers, children and parents, it spread quickly and has evolved over the years. Today, HIV remains a challenge in southern Africa, but with antiretroviral drugs, things have improved significantly. Today, Star for Life has a broader focus on young people’s health, motivation and responsibility.
Since the start, over 500,000 students have gone through Star for Life’s program and today we operate in 169 schools in South Africa, Namibia, Tanzania, Sweden, Ukraine and Jerusalem. Evaluations show that we make the biggest difference for girls in the poorest areas. Together we build a better tomorrow.
