Star for Life South Africa
Star for Life South Africa
Star for Life began as a pilot programme at Siphosabadletshe High School in South Africa in 2005. The goal was to curb the spread of HIV, strengthen students’ self-esteem, and ultimately improve their academic results.
For over 20 years, we have done exactly that – and since the beginning, more than 540.000 students have participated in our school programme. Today, the work is led by our Executive Director, Precious Dlamini. Together with our dedicated local staff, she ensures that our school and health programme coaches meet students every day, all year round.
Our projects
At Star for Life, we design and implement projects that create lasting change in the lives of young people and their communities.
Girls Clubs
South Africa & namibia
Too many girls grow up facing poverty, stigma, abuse, and gender-based violence. Through our Girls Clubs, Star for Life creates safe spaces where girls can learn, grow, and speak freely about empowerment, bodily integrity, consent, health, and entrepreneurship. Our goal is to raise a new generation of strong and independent women.
Boys Clubs
South Africa
Through our Boys Clubs, Star for Life supports young men in choosing education, self-worth, and positive life paths. Participants learn about mental and emotional health, respect, healthy masculinities, and consent, while receiving guidance to pursue their goals. Our goal is to shape responsible, confident, and gender-equal men.
Veggie Garden
South Africa
The Veggie Garden Project promotes food security, education, and health while highlighting career opportunities in agriculture and nutrition. The project will continue at Kufezekile High School, expand to Eldorado School in Namibia in 2026 with support from the Futura Foundation, and a third school is being identified for implementation in 2026/2027.
Computer Projects
South Africa
Following successful computer projects in 2024 and 2025, a new project will be launched in 2026 at Emadwaleni High School in Johannesburg in partnership with Montblanc. Providing computers enables participation in the national CAT programme, strengthening digital education and future career opportunities. An additional project is planned for August 2026.
Education Project
South Africa
This three-year project at Shumayela High School combines the Star for Life school programme with career orientation in logistics. The aim is to create clear vocational pathways for young people while helping address skills shortages in South Africa and, in the long term, Germany.
Our work in South Africa
To ensure that Star for Life’s school programme creates real and lasting impact, we continuously monitor and evaluate our work and share the results with our partners. This work is led by our Research Director, doctor Per Strand, PhD.
