A Digital Springboard for Africa’s Youth: The Star for Life Computer Project

Raising the Level of Education in Southern Africa

The Computer Project is, alongside our school programme, an important educational initiative by Star for Life.

In rural and disadvantaged regions of South Africa, many schoolchildren lack access to digital technology.

Most of the students we support have neither access to computers nor basic knowledge of how to use common software – skills that are urgently needed in today’s technology-driven world and are crucial for their academic and professional success.

The aim of the Computer Project is to bridge the digital divide by providing access to computers and enabling participation in relevant training.

Knowledge in the Digital World

To drive change, we have launched a project within our school programme that equips South African schools with around 40 computers with pre-installed Microsoft software. The Computer Project offers hands-on training for students and teachers, providing valuable digital skills that sustainably strengthen their academic and professional opportunities.

By actively involving local teachers, a sustainable transfer of knowledge is ensured, allowing schools to continue developing digital competencies independently after the project has ended.

From Digital Skills to Future Opportunities

Career Readiness

94% of participating students state that their newly acquired IT skills make them feel better prepared for their career goals. These skills open new perspectives and opportunities in the labour market.

Confidence and Motivation

The workshops play a key role in increasing students’ confidence and motivation. Through access to modern technology and digital skills, participants develop stronger belief in their abilities and look to the future with optimism.

Sustainable Impact

The newly acquired digital skills not only support personal development but also enrich the school environment. Students become role models and inspire their peers, creating a positive learning dynamic within the school community.

Knowledge Transfer for Teachers

By involving teachers in the programme, a sustainable transfer of knowledge is ensured, allowing digital competencies to continue to be developed and passed on even after the project has ended.
