Detta sker genom interaktiva \u00f6vningar d\u00e4r v\u00e5r Coach guidar eleverna till nya insikter till exempel om deras h\u00e4lsa och k\u00e4nslor, eller om deras utbildning. Denna nya kunskap ger i sin tur upphov till f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar i attityder. Ungdomarna k\u00e4nner att de har en potential att skapa sig en b\u00e4ttre framtid. De b\u00f6rjar prioritera sin h\u00e4lsa och l\u00e4xorna. De b\u00f6rjar planera f\u00f6r att lyckas. Det \u00e4r inte l\u00e4ngre lika tufft att leva farligt, att inte bry sig. Det tredje och avg\u00f6rande steget i denna f\u00f6r\u00e4ndring \u00e4r att attityderna leder till f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar i deras faktiska beteende.      <\/p>\n<p>Att stegvis g\u00e5 fr\u00e5n kunskap till \u00e4ndrade attityder till f\u00f6r\u00e4ndrat beteende \u00e4r den \u2018kausala kedja\u2019 som Star for Lifes program bygger p\u00e5. Det \u00e4r v\u00e5r Theory of Change. <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Hur utv\u00e4rderar vi<br \/><\/b>Ambitionen med v\u00e5ra utv\u00e4rderingar \u00e4r att testa om f\u00f6r\u00e4ndring verkligen sker i dessa tre steg. Det \u00e4r ingen l\u00e4tt uppgift, rent forskningsm\u00e4ssigt, men vi har en ambiti\u00f6s strategi d\u00e4r vi anv\u00e4nder olika typer av data och analyser. F\u00f6r n\u00e4r vi j\u00e4mf\u00f6r elevernas enk\u00e4tsvar fr\u00e5n 2023 d\u00e5 de b\u00f6rjade i respektive High School med deras svar efter n\u00e4stan tv\u00e5 \u00e5r med Star for Life ser vi en stark \u00f6kning av r\u00e4tt svar p\u00e5 fr\u00e5gor om s\u00e4ker sex. Hela 153% fler av flickorna l\u00e4rde sig hur de kan skydda sig sj\u00e4lva s\u00e5 att de inte beh\u00f6ver lita p\u00e5 mannen. D\u00e5 vi fr\u00e5gar eleverna vad de har l\u00e4rt sig av Star for Life svarar 63% att de har l\u00e4rt sig nya saker om deras h\u00e4lsa mer generellt, och hela 78% s\u00e4ger att<br \/>de har l\u00e4rt sig mer om vad HIV och AIDS \u00e4r och hur de kan skydda sig. 27% fler av b\u00e5de pojkar och flickor l\u00e4rde sig att en flicka kan bli gravid redan vid f\u00f6rsta samlaget.   <\/p>\n<p>Eleverna \u00e4r samtidigt rustade f\u00f6r att f\u00f6rst\u00e5 b\u00e5de sig sj\u00e4lva och andra b\u00e4ttre genom v\u00e5ra diskussioner om k\u00e4nslor, sj\u00e4lvk\u00e4nsla och tillitsfull kommunikation. Hela 78% fler tycker att de f\u00f6rst\u00e5r sig sj\u00e4lva b\u00e4ttre, och 54% tycker att de nu har l\u00e4ttare att f\u00f6rst\u00e5 andra. Det \u00e4r denna nya kunskap om h\u00e4lsa, k\u00e4nslor och relationer som l\u00e4gger grunden till f\u00f6r\u00e4ndrade attityder \u2013 det andra steget i v\u00e5r kausala kedja.  <\/p>\n<p>Mer \u00e4n tv\u00e5 tredjedelar av eleverna (69%) s\u00e4ger att de har l\u00e4rt av Star for Life att de har en inre potential att f\u00f6rverkliga sina dr\u00f6mmar. Detta \u00e4r inte \u2018kunskap\u2019 i egentlig mening utan en inst\u00e4llning som de har tagit till sig med hj\u00e4lp av Star for<br \/>Life. Lika stor del av eleverna (66%) s\u00e4ger att Star for Life har gjort att de k\u00e4nner sig mer motiverade att jobba h\u00e5rt i skolan. Vi kan koppla dessa resultat till vad vi l\u00e4rde i en serie djupintervjuer med f\u00f6re detta elever i slutet av 2023 och b\u00f6rjan av 2024. Flera av dessa menade att Star for Lifes st\u00f6rsta bidrag var att l\u00e4ra ut hur en allm\u00e4n f\u00f6rhoppning om en b\u00e4ttre framtid kan f\u00f6rverkligas genom att skapa en ambiti\u00f6s men realistisk studieplan f\u00f6r \u00e5ren i High School d\u00e5 eleverna \u00e4r 13-18 \u00e5r gamla. De menade att Star for Life visserligen inspirerade dem att dr\u00f6mma stort, men att det viktigaste var att de l\u00e4rde sig planera f\u00f6r konkreta steg, f\u00f6r praktiska f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar i deras beteenden.     <\/p>\n<p>F\u00f6r det \u00e4r ju \u00e4nd\u00e5 s\u00e5 att om vi vill se verklig f\u00f6r\u00e4ndring i elevernas liv, om vi vill hj\u00e4lpa dem att realisera ett b\u00e4ttre liv f\u00f6r sig sj\u00e4lva, ja d\u00e5 r\u00e4cker det inte med att de l\u00e4r sig nya saker eller att de tar till sig positiva attityder. De m\u00e5ste \u00e4ven<br \/>f\u00f6r\u00e4ndra beteenden som motverkar deras dr\u00f6mmar, t.ex. att sluta anv\u00e4nda droger eller att v\u00e4gra os\u00e4ker sex. Ist\u00e4llet m\u00e5ste de v\u00e4lja beteenden som leder till att de lyckas. I tidigare utv\u00e4rderingar har Star for Life baserat analysen p\u00e5 elevernas egna utsagor om hur de beter sig, vilket ju \u00e4r f\u00f6rknippat med en viss os\u00e4kerhet. I ett fall dock, med hj\u00e4lp av skolmyndigheternas data fr\u00e5n 2013, kunde vi visa att antalet graviditer p\u00e5 Star for Life-skolorna i norra KwaZulu-Natal var 30% l\u00e4gre \u00e4n i andra j\u00e4mf\u00f6rbara skolor. Under 2025 hoppas vi \u00e5terigen f\u00e5 tillg\u00e5ng till denna typen av data, s\u00e5 vi \u00e5terkommer om vilka resultat den analysen ger. Den officiella data som vi har analyserat under 2024 g\u00e4ller ist\u00e4llet elevernas akademiska resultat.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Flera internationella analyser har visat att den typ av program som Star for Life driver kan bidra till b\u00e4ttre akademiska resultat i de traditionella kunskaps\u00e4mnena. Anledningen till detta \u00e4r att programmet hj\u00e4lper eleverna fokusera p\u00e5 studierna.Dels f\u00f6r att vi st\u00e4rker deras motivation f\u00f6r att plugga, men \u00e4ven f\u00f6r att vi hj\u00e4lper dem hantera den stress som ofta drabbar dem under puberteten. I metodbokens terminologi \u00e4r indikatorn \u2018akademiska resultat\u2019 en indirekt effekt av v\u00e5rt program.   <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">L\u00e5t oss b\u00f6rja med de akademiska resultaten fr\u00e5n Sydafrika. Eleverna i \u00e5rskurs 12 skriver en slutexamen som p\u00e5 flera s\u00e4tt avg\u00f6r hur elevernas liv utvecklas efter examen. De som lyckas b\u00e4st kan studera vidare p\u00e5 universitet. De som klarar den grundl\u00e4ggande examensniv\u00e5n kan g\u00e5 vidare till olika mer praktiska utbildningar och har d\u00e4rmed l\u00e5ngt b\u00e4ttre chanser att f\u00e5 ett jobb. V\u00e5r analys visar att en h\u00f6gre andel<br \/>elever p\u00e5 Star for Life-skolorna klarar denna grundl\u00e4ggande examen \u00e4n elever p\u00e5 andra j\u00e4mf\u00f6rabara skolor i samma skoldistrikt, under tre \u00e5r i rad (2021-2023). Det \u00e4r otroligt roligt f\u00f6r oss att kunna rapportera att en h\u00f6gre andel av v\u00e5ra elever klarade att kvalificera sig till fortsatta studier j\u00e4mf\u00f6rt med elever i j\u00e4mf\u00f6rbara skolor i de tre regioner d\u00e4r vi arbetar.
