To memorably conclude women’s month in South Africa, our Daughters of Africa project held a Girls Seminar themed: “the most beautiful thing a girl can wear is her confidence”, at Khlulani Special School in Mduku area, on Friday. The seminar aimed at tackling the 3 objectives of the project: 1) Sexual reproductive health and rights 2) Gender-based violence and 3) Entrepreneurship.

Supporting the initiative on the day, we had very special guests: Her Royal Highness Princess Nandi (Ambassador for Star for Life) with words of love and support, Dr. S Ngobese spoke on Sexual reproductive health and rights, Nonhlanhla Mkhize on Gender-based violence, Mrs. Phumzile Lembede on Entrepreneurship, and a surprise guest appearance by the famous Dj C’ndo, reminding learners that their dreams are possible.

Daughters of Africa is a project under Star for life that aims to also contribute to the United Nations sustainable development goals number 1 and 5, that is to achieve gender equality and end poverty by 2030.
One hundred and eighty-two girls from thirteen High schools in Umkhanyakude District took part In what saw to be an auspicious occasion, aimed to empower young teenage girls to know their sexual health rights and be proud of their womanhood, thereby building strong self-esteem in which they are never victims of gender-based violence.
The seminar composed of numerous successful businesswomen who spoke a lot about entrepreneurship; this was aimed at ending a generation of woman who are poverty-stricken.

Princess Nandi’s closing words were of dreams, saying: “you need to dream big and then go for those dreams. Boys are not dreams, babies are not dreams, education is a dream… and you need to go for it.”
Overall the event was a huge success, with learners gaining life-changing knowledge that will help them become the best version of themselves in the future.
